Challenge
Sant Cugat needed to accurately map urban pollution, distinguishing the impact of traffic, green infrastructure, and new surfaces in school and residential areas. It was essential to obtain detailed data to validate interventions such as repaving, school zones, and sustainable mobility strategies, contributing to a healthier city.
Solution
The City Council deployed 7 bettair® sensors between April and May, strategically placed at school zones, avenues with and without trees, streets near highways, and parks. These sensors measured CO, O₃, NO, NO₂, PM 1, PM 2.5 and PM 10 over one year, allowing evaluation of new pavement effects, contrasting urban environments, and comparing data with the reference station.

Outcomes
The precise mapping revealed clear differences between areas with varying tree cover and traffic levels, enabling tailored strategies to reduce pollution in school and residential areas.
Comparative analysis across avenues, green zones, and high-traffic points facilitated the adoption of more effective urban and mobility measures, backed by objective data.
Collaboration with the XVPCA allowed validation of the technology and data sharing that is now available online, promoting transparency and citizen engagement in air quality policies.
