Challenge
Piera, with a population of 18,000, is located near the largest landfill in Catalonia. Despite the potential impact from landfill emissions, the nearest air quality monitoring station is 15 km away in Martorell. The city faced difficulties in assessing air quality and addressing pollutants such as NO₂, PM2.5, H₂S and VOCs effectively, hampering environmental and health management.
Solution
Bettair Cities deployed two fixed air quality monitoring nodes in Piera, designed to measure a wide range of pollutants, including NO₂, CO, PM2.5, H₂S, VOCs and noise levels. Compact, with no calibration required, these devices easily integrate with the Sentilo platform in the smart city. Thanks to the easy-to-use platform, Piera authorities now have access to real-time data, advanced analytics and automatic reporting, facilitating informed environmental and public health decisions.

Outcomes
First, Piera was able to identify key trends in air quality, including the impact of landfill emissions.
A monitoring system was established for H₂S and VOCs, previously unmeasured components.
increased public awareness and trust through transparent data disclosure. This implementation demonstrates that small municipalities can use advanced technology to strengthen their sustainability with limited resources.
