Bettair in Belém for COP30: Air quality monitoring in the heart of the Amazon
COP30 | Belém, Pará, Brazil
Regulation networks | Urban
Challenge
COP30, held in Belém (Pará, Brazil), represented a unique and critical opportunity: to conduct robust environmental measurements in the middle of the Amazon rainforest during a global climate summit. A solution was needed that could monitor pollutant gases, atmospheric particles, and meteorological variables in real time, in a tropical environment with difficult access and high humidity. In addition, it was vital to provide data to world leaders and citizens to reinforce climate decisions with tangible scientific evidence.
Solution
Bettair deployed two air quality stations during COP30 in Belém, in the state of Pará, Brazil. Through the

Outcomes
Bettair is generating a continuous, high-resolution environmental database during COP30, providing key evidence to understand atmospheric emissions in the Amazon at a moment of global significance.
Real-time alerts and visualizations allow organizers and authorities to respond swiftly to pollution variations, reinforcing operational climate management during the summit and demonstrating the technology’s effectiveness.
The project leaves a scientific and technological legacy: a scalable platform that can be used after the summit for permanent monitoring and to support conservation and public health policies.
“…Our goal is to build a solid foundation, understand the environmental variability of the region and support decision making, both in internal planning for PCT Guamá and in support of environmental protection, urban resilience and civil defense policies. The experience has been very interesting, since the data collected already allows us to visualize patterns, identify variations in air quality and plan environmental actions in a more assertive way. In addition, the use of these sensors in the Amazon reinforces the importance of including the region in environmental monitoring initiatives of scientific and social relevance.”
